NEW YORK STANDARDS QUARTET (NYSQ)
featuring Tim Armacost, David Berkman, Ugonna Okegwo, and Gene Jackson
Since its formation in 2006, the NYSQ is a band that has developed a near-telepathic relationship having played together in a variety of settings. Conceptually, the NYSQ strives to develop its own language within the traditional vocabulary, performing well-known standard jazz repertoire, cleverly reconstructed to liberate the players with essentially a blank slate for classic and recognizable melodies.

GARY BURTON - MAKOTO OZONE DUO
Now an NEA Jazz Master Fellowship to go with seven Grammy Awards, Gary Burton is the most important vibraphonist extant and arguably of all time. His various collaborations particularly with Chick Corea and Pat Metheny, are renowned. The sublime duo performances with pianist Makoto Ozone date back to 1983. They remain active collaborators despite Ozone’s successful foray into pure classical performance, a rare occurrence for a jazz musician. This concert is important on several levels.

STANLEY JORDAN TRIO
Stanley Jordan is the most gifted guitarists of his generation, renowned as the uncontested master of the spectacular two-handed tap technique that allows him to play rhythm and melody simultaneously. Perhaps more astounding is his ability to play guitar and piano simultaneously, switching the melody from one instrument to the other seamlessly. Stanley Jordan is, however, much more than a technical phenomenon. His interpretations – from Bach to Bird to the Beatles - are true masterpieces. But the strength and depth of his multi-faceted music stem from his belief in the power of his art. For Stanley, making music has always been more than just entertainment; it is a genuine restorative journey, which will inspire and heal the soul, in the immediate and utterly therapeutic sense of the word.
